Alice Donovan

MILLBURY -Alice A. (Liubauskas) Donovan, 98, formerly of Millbury, died on Tuesday, January 3rd at Harbor House in Hingham, after a short illness. She was the daughter of Alexander and Anna Liubauskas who emigrated from Lithuania and lived her entire life in Worcester and Millbury. Alice was married to Daniel F. Donovan Jr., owner of Donovan's Ice Cream of Millbury and Shrewsbury who died in 2007. She leaves four children: Maribeth Hammond and her husband, Joseph, of Hingham, Daniel F. Donovan III and his wife, Cindy of Leicester, Christine Blaustein and her husband, William of Evergreen, Colorado and Martha O'Connor of Worcester. She leaves 7 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She is predeceased by two brothers, Frank and John Lukas and three sisters, Helen Liubauskas, Florence O'Brien, and Rita Neubauer.

Alice was a graduate of Millbury High School and Salters Secretarial School and worked as a secretary at Merrill and Usher until her marriage when she assisted in the operation of Donovan's Ice Cream. She was active in St. Brigid's Parish, serving as president of the Catholic Women's Club and as a teacher in catechism program. Alice served as a research participant in the Massachusetts Women's Health Initiative Project on heart healthy diet and longevity. She was an avid bridge player, artist and seamstress and enjoyed tennis and skiing. After selling Donovan's Ice Cream, Alice travelled with her husband to all the major cities of Europe. She loved and maintained her home at 72 Main St. Millbury until 2014 when she moved to the Hingham/Weymouth area.

Mrs. Donovan's memorial calling hour will be held Sunday, Jan. 8th from 2 to 5 p.m. at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main St. in Millbury. Her memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at Noon in St. Brigid Church 59 N. Main St. in Millbury. Memorial contributions may be made to the Millbury Historical Society, P. O.
