MILLBURY Arlene D. (Day) Ball, 89, of 5 Mill Street, died a peaceful death Thursday, March 10th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Memorial Campus, Worcester, after a long and productive life.
Her husband, David Ball, died in 1989. She leaves a daughter, Carolyn E. Ball-Hanson of Millbury; two- granddaughters, Melissa Hanson of Missouri and Robin Ramsey of and two great-granddaughters all of Virginia; nephews and nieces; many loving friends and her cat. She is predeceased by a son, John Ball and two sisters, Rosamond Tucker and Marguerite Day and a brother, Ralph Day. She was born and lived her entire life in her home in West Millbury, daughter of Charles F. and Edith H. (Hoyle) Day. She graduated from Millbury High School and the former Fairfield Office School in Worcester.
Mrs. Ball was a secretary for Rockwood Sprinkler Co. and also worked at Worcester Academy, in Worcester before she retired.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church and was a former teacher and treasurer of the Sunday School at the church. She was a member of the Millbury WomanTM)s Club, the Friends of the Millbury Public Library, former member of the Adah Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, the Millbury Historical Society, the West Millbury Social Union and she was a trustee of the West Millbury Union Chapel. She was also a Camp Fire leader. Mrs. Ball was also instrumental in petitioning for adult education in the Millbury schools. She combined her love of reading and children as a volunteer reader in the Millbury Elementary Schools. She enjoyed her family, friends, crafts, reading, travel and all living things.
Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 16th in the First Congregational Church, 148 West Main St., Millbury. Burial will be in West Millbury Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 15th, in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Accessibility Fund of the First Congregational Church, 148 West Main St., Millbury, MA 01527 or to the Auburn District Nursing, 191 Pakachoag Street, Auburn, MA 01501.
