NORTH OXFORD - Barbara Jo (Pece) Karrat, 74, passed away suddenly on Friday, November 17th.
Barbara was the family matriarch and was first and foremost a dedicated wife, working alongside her husband managing his medical practice for over 40 years. She treasured and adored her four children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Sittoo for her five grandchildren, whom she absolutely cherished spending time with.
Barbara’s cooking was second to none. Her kitchen was open to everyone, and every meal started with her holy cooking trinity of salt, pepper, and garlic - the basis for a delicious meal. Dinner often featured her hosting a competitive episode of Jeopardy! with the family.
Barbara was devout in her Catholic faith and a voracious reader, which certainly helped with her Jeopardy! prowess. She often enjoyed a glass of wine while cooking and at dinner and treated herself to espresso martinis when dining out. Always dressed well with perfect hair and makeup, Barbara wouldn’t be caught without looking her best at all times.
Predeceased by her parents Mario and Concetta Pece of Cleveland, OH. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Dr. George John Karrat Sr; her beloved children: James Karrat, Aimee Karrat, Paul Karrat with wife Lisa (DeCaro) and George Karrat Jr. with wife Jamie (Berglund) and her adored grandchildren: Olivia, Charlie, Grace (Juskavitch), George III and Joseph; mother to Olivia and Charlie, Carla Sewell and father to Grace, Todd Juskavitch. She is also survived by her step-grandson, Joshua Smith with his wife Jasmine and their son, Elias and a large extended family.
Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Barbara’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Friday, Nov. 24th from 4 to 7 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 25th at 11 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 N. Main Street in Millbury. Burial will follow in North Cemetery, Oxford.
