Benjamin Miles

August 14, 1927 — October 16, 2005

MILLBURY Ben Miles, 78, of Millbury, died peacefully in his sleep early Sunday morning, in his home.

He leaves his beloved wife of 56 years, Jean (Heidtmann) Miles; his loving children, John Todd Miles and his wife Susan of Millbury, Laura wife of Mark Bultemeier of Virginia, Leslie wife of Bob Vigneau of Millbury and Philip Miles and his wife Vicki of Millbury. He also leaves nine grandchildren.

Ben was born in Chicago Illinois, but spent most of his life, living in Millbury. He graduated from Millbury High School in 1945 and Springfield College in 1952. He served in the military during WW II . the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a Navy Signalman and a pilot for many years and retired as a Captain in the Army Corps of Engineers. While in Korea he received the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Ben was a land developer and builder in Millbury and surrounding towns, for more than 50 years. He served on many town boards and committees, the most recent being on the Elmwood Street School and the Millbury High School Building Committees. He was always proud of the work he did making the town of Millbury a wonderful place to live. He was a long time Mason and was a member of the Olive Branch Lodge of Masons in Millbury.

A Memorial Reception will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18th at the Asa Waters Mansion, 123 Elm St., Millbury. Private graveside service will be held in Central Cemetery, Millbury. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donorTM)s choice.
