MILLBURY – Beverly A. (Cofske) Handfield, 79, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 in St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.
Her husband, Richard J. Handfield died in 1990. She leaves three children, Joan D. Raymond and her husband, Douglas of Millbury, Richard L. Handfield and his wife, Kathleen of Upton and Gail M. Santoro and her husband, Ralph of Shrewsbury; four grandsons, Jeffrey Raymond and his wife, Ann and Kyle Raymond of Millbury and Nicholas and Matthew Santoro of Shrewsbury; a sister, Nancy Scappaticci and her husband, Benjamin of Holden; four brothers, N. Laurie Cofske and his wife, Frances of Chester, Maryland, Arthur Cofske and his wife, Eileen of Worcester, David Cofske and his wife, Carol of Millbury and Ralph Cofske and his wife, Jeannie of Thompson, CT; two cherished godchildren, D. James Cofske of Millbury and Kathryn Webber of Charlton; many nieces and nephews. She also leaves many friends from her line dancing and her Tuesday night coffee.
Mrs. Handfield was employed by St. Vincent Hospital for many years, before she retired, where she held many positions, teaching at the school of nursing, health nurse, nursing education and quality assurance. She graduated from Millbury High School, class of 1950, St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in 1953 and Anna Maria College with a Master's Degree in 1984. She was a member of the Board of Directors of St. Vincent Hospital Alumni Society and a member of the Millbury Historical Society. She was a co-founder of the Millbury Free Health Clinic. Beverly loved to read, do cross word puzzles and line dance.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, July 26th from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 10 Waters St. in Millbury. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday July 25th in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Brigid Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Beverly's name may be made to the Fallon Oncology Fund, Fallon Clinic Foundation, 100 Front St., Worcester, MA 01608.
