Billy M. Dowdy, 80, died Friday, July 18th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.
Billy leaves his wife of 28 years, Elizabeth "Liz" (Snay) Dowdy. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly (Spottiswood) Dowdy. Billy also leaves two daughters, Marie (Glenn) Cozine of NJ and Annette, wife of the late, Henry Moreau of Leicester; a son, Mark Dowdy of Tyngsboro; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren; a sister, Glenna, wife of the late Marvin Sartin. He is predeceased by a brother, Daniel David Dowdy; a sister, Thelma Scott and two step- sisters, Edna May and Thelma Louise.
Billy was born in Eggleston VA, son of the late Elbert and Hallie Gertrude (Lafon) Dowdy. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and worked as an electrical technician at Raytheon for 35 years. Bill was a soft spoken man whom everyone loved and respected. He enjoyed a simple life spending time at the Millbury Senior Center playing cards, being a volunteer and socializing. He also enjoyed racing pigeons with his neighbor and friend Ron.
Billy's calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 23rd from 5 to 7 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main Street in Millbury.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, July 24th with a service at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery in Millbury.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Millbury Seniors, 1 River Street, Millbury, MA 01527.
