Carolyn J. (Grendol) Markey, 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at home surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer.
Carol is survived by her husband of 47 years, Arthur J. Markey; her daughter, Kim and her wife, Eileen and a granddaughter, Ana; a brother, Richard Grendol; many nieces and nephews. Carol is predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Mary Grendol and her two sisters, Sandra O'Toole and Gail Blair. She grew up in Worcester and graduated from Commerce High School.
Her struggle with cancer was not done alone and along with her husband Arthur, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Dr. Ferguson, her nieces, Karen, Robin and Donna all providing tremendous love and support. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Carol enjoyed golfing, spending winters in Florida and visiting her family in California.
Carol's calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 6th from 2 to 4 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main Street in Millbury.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday, April 7th at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Central Cemetery in Millbury.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations may be made to the Boston Hope Lodge c/o Christopher Thomas, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or the VNA Care Network, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608.
