SUTTON- Channing W. "Buster" Smith Jr., 75, of 33 Buttonwood Avenue, died Thursday, April 17, in his home after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Janet C. (Collins) Smith; a son, Channing W. Smith III of Sutton; two daughters, Cassandra S. Bloom of Margate, Florida and Cynthia T. Swendsboe of Madison, Alabama; a sister, Adell Becker of Wilson, Florida; six grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A sister, Marilyn Peterson predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Channing W. Smith Sr. and Ethel (Trussell) Smith and has lived in Sutton for most of his life. He graduated from Sutton High School.
Mr. Smith was president of Sexton Associates Inc. in Shrewsbury, before retiring. He was an Army veteran during WW II, serving in Japan.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Howard Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 27 in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, (
