DEVOTED SON, BROTHER AND UNCLE

BREWSTER - Charles McNamara, 91, of Brewster, died March 7, 2012. He was the son of Roger A. McNamara, Sr. and Mary (McManus) McNamara.

He was raised and educated in Millville, MA and graduated from Blackstone High School in 1938. Charlie loved baseball and was a diehard Boston Braves fan. One of Charlie's fondest childhood memories was the day that his hero and local legend hall of fame catcher, Gabby Hartnett, from the Chicago Cubs, took Charlie into the dugout with him to meet the players. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 where he served as a rear gunner aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga Aircraft Carrier. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Charlie moved to St. Petersburg, FL where he worked as an inspector for General Electric and was an avid bowler.

He was predeceased by his brother, Roger A. McNamara, Jr. Charlie is survived and dearly missed by his sister, Eleanor M. Hamilton of Brewster, MA, with whom he resided for the past three years; four nephews, two nieces, many cousins, great nieces and nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, March 16th from 5 to 7 pm. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Rt. 122A in Millbury. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 am Saturday, March 17th at St. Augustine's Church, 15 Lincoln St. in Millville, MA, where Charlie served as an altar boy. Burial will take place at St. Brigid Cemetery in Millbury, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Charlie's name may be made to the Brewster Fire & Rescue Department, 1657 Main Street Brewster, MA 02631.
