MILLBURY- Chester P. Hanratty, Jr., 73, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Saint Vincent Hospital.
Chester is predeceased by his parents, Chester P. Hanratty, Sr. and Pearl Ann (Leary) Hanratty and a sister, Patricia Ann Hill.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 46 years, Karen (McCarthy) Hanratty, siblings, Jay Hanratty of Auburn, Jan Hanratty, Joan Giorgio and her husband Dave, and Shawn Hanratty all of Millbury, brother-in-law, Michael Hill and aunt, Joan Hanratty both of Millbury, brother-in-law, Kevin McCarthy of Sutton, mother-in-law, Patricia McCarthy of Millbury, thirteen nieces and nephews and eight great nieces and nephews.
Chester was born and raised in Millbury and graduated from Millbury Memorial High School in 1971. After high school he attended Holy Cross College and graduated from Worcester State College. He worked for the Felter’s Company for over 25 years as Vice President of shipping and manufacturing. Chester worked for many years and retired from his position as Facilities Manager for Millbury Public Schools. He served as chairperson for Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School for over 50 years and was very proud of his Millbury heritage.
Chester enjoyed many summers on Lake Singletary at the McCarthy’s family camp, where he enjoyed waterskiing, fishing, and scuba diving. He also enjoyed spending time at his friend Mickey’s beach house on Saquish Neck, Plymouth, Ma. His greatest passion was football, holding season tickets for Holy Cross from 1977 until 1995 and being a very dedicated New England Patriots fan, holding season tickets from 1986 to present day, attending 7 out of the teams 11 Super Bowl appearances.
Chester’s most prized possession was his 1964 Corvette Stingray which he owned for over 50 years. He enjoyed cruising around in it listening to the Beach Boys.
Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Chester’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Friday, September 27th from 4 to 7 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals 45 N. Main Street, Millbury.
His Funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday, September 28th at 10am in the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date.
