Chester J. Roy. 96, died Dec. 9th at his home, after a period of declining health.
He was born in Fitchburg the son of Regis and Emelda (L’Ecuyer) Roy and lived in Millbury most of his life, moving to Brookdale/Eddy Pond East in Auburn, several years ago.
He is survived by his son Robert and his wife, Barbara of Millbury; four grandchildren, Eric, Amy, Christine, and Adam; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jessika, and Aria; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Elaine (Jette) Roy; a sister, Rita Gosselin, a close friend, Dorothy Kulig, and the many aunts and uncles that helped raise him.
Chester served in the U.S. Army during WWII with Co. F, 531st Engineering Regiment, going ashore on Utah Beach. After his release from the service, he worked for Short Line Bus Company, Eastern Bridge Supply, and retired from Wyman Gordon Company after 23 years of employment.
He was a devoted member of St. Brigid Church in Millbury, a Life Member of the Charles F. Minney V.F.W. Post #3329, in Millbury, a member of the Dudley Gendron American Legion Post in Sutton, the Knights of Columbus in Grafton and the Millbury Council on Aging. He was an avid horseshoe player and belonged to the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association. For many years, and until only recently, he was “a regular” player in the SCAT games at the Millbury Senior Center and enjoyed his many friends there. He lived a simple life, ~ the things that were important to him: family, faith, and friends.
A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday Dec. 15th in St Brigid's Church, 59 N. Main St., in Millbury. Burial will be private in Central Cemetery in Millbury. Memorial contributions in Chester’s name may be made to St. Brigid Church, 59 N. Main St. in Millbury, MA 01527 or to the Friends of the Millbury Seniors, 1 River St. Millbury, MA 01527.
