MILLBURY - Claire M. (Metivier) Houle, 90, died on January 10th at Cape Heritage Rehab and Health Care Center in Sandwich.

She was born and raised in Woonsocket, RI and married her late husband, Henry E. Houle in 1948. They settled in Whitinsville where they raised their family.  She began her secretarial career at Whitin Machine Works and later worked at the News Tribune. At the time of her retirement she worked as Executive Secretary to the president of Morgan Construction Co. in Worcester.

Post retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively and especially enjoyed pilgrimages to the Vatican, Lourdes, Fatima and the Holy Land.  She volunteered in prison ministry at the Worcester County House of Correction for eleven years and participated in weekend retreats at MCI, Shirley.  She was a Eucharistic minister at UMass Memorial in Worcester and an Associate with the Sisters of St. Ann.  She was known for her positive attitude and words of encouragement.  She loved decorating her house and working in her flower garden, but her most precious times were spent at family gatherings.

She leaves a daughter, Diane Magnuson of Sagamore Beach and sons: Richard Houle and wife Andrea of Ft. Myers, FL: Dennis Houle and wife Joanne of Gilford, NH and James Houle and his wife Beth of Eliot, ME, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Family and friends will honor and remember Claire’s life by gathering for her Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 26th in St. Brigid’s Church, 59 N. Main Street in Millbury.  Burial will follow at St. Brigid Cemetery, Millbury.

. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
