MILLBURY - Colette (Dumont) Walsh, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 4th in her home of 59 years surrounded by her children. She graduated from Uxbridge High School in 1955 as the class valedictorian and continued her education at UMass Amherst with a BA in English.
Colette (aka G3, Great Grandma Grandma) is survived by two daughters, Diane Pickett & husband Christopher (SGM, USA Ret.) of Aberdeen NC, Donna Raad of South Grafton, two sons, David & fiancée Karen Ouimette of Webster, and Derek of Millbury. She was predeceased by daughter Debra Stairs but leaves behind son in-law William (1SG, USA Ret.) of Red Springs NC. Also left to mourn her is her nine grandchildren; Garrett Walsh of Aberdeen NC, Ryan Stairs & fiancée Stacie Jaynes of Cedar Crest NM, Jessica Walsh of Leicester, Alexander Stairs & wife Dylann of Hartford CT, Zachary Stairs (SFC, USA) of San Antonio TX, David Walsh, Jr & fiancée Amanda Levasseur of Worcester, Aleena Pickett of Minot ND, Samira Raad of South Grafton, Mackenzie Walsh of Millbury, four great-grandsons; Damien Kelley of Leicester, Jaxon Walsh of Aberdeen NC, Andre Levasseur of Worcester, Oliver Stairs of Cedar Crest NM and her brother Paul Dumont of Grafton. She is also predeceased by her parents Ore and Doris Dumont.
As a new college graduate, Colette was a writer for the Feature Parade of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. While her children were young, she spent a lot of time volunteering for the Millbury Mothers Club (founding member), Millbury Friends of the Library and the Greater Worcester Council of Camp Fire earning the Ernest Thompson Seton Award. For years she also wrote the weekly town baseball game results article for the Millbury Journal. She worked at Children’s Friend Inc for 23 years retiring in 2015.
For the last twenty years she had been an active member of the Red Hat Society. The thing she loved to do in her spare time was to spend time with her beloved friends called ‘The Pigs’ who she referred to as the sisters she never had.
Family & friends will honor and remember Colette’s life with a time of visitation followed by a short eulogy on Tuesday, May 18th from 5 to 7pm at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main St in Millbury. Her burial will be celebrated privately.
