MILLBURY – Diane (Hubbard) Thompson, 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 7th.
She leaves her husband of 58 years, William I. Thompson III and four children: Carrie T. (George) Efinger of Somerset NJ; Kristin E. (Robert) Franger of Shrewsbury MA; Heather (Christopher) Fetterly of Sterling MA, and William I. (Anne) Thompson IV of Melrose MA and a beloved niece Wendy Quirion. She has twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents Richard and Frances (Dolbeare) Hubbard, she leaves her sisters Judith Hubbard and Frances Hubbard and a brother Dwight (Judy) Hubbard
An avid choral singer who most recently sang with the Master Singers of Worcester. She was an active walker and tennis player. She was a wonderful mother, a homemaker “par excellence”, a gourmet cook and home entertainer. She was a skilled knitter, gardener, and an avid reader.
She graduated from Shrewsbury High School as a member of the National Honor Society. She first worked for the former Paul Revere Life Insurance Company, in Worcester MA. Her professional activities included managing offices for several dentists and doctors.
Diane was a devout Christian and was an active member of churches in Colorado Massachusetts and Virginia. Upon her passing she was a member of Fairlawn Christian Reformed Church in Whitinsville, MA where she had been active in the choir, bible study groups, and chair of the hospitality team.
It might be noted that Diane was a direct descendant of the Jonathan Fairbanks family that settled in Dedham MA in the early 1600s. The family is credited with erecting the earliest surviving wooden dwelling in the United States.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Diane’s life by gathering for her Memorial Service on Friday, June 10th at Noon in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury. Burial will be private.
