Dominic Raymond Bombredi, 85, a lifelong resident of Millbury, died at his home Thursday Nov, 6th. Known as "The Dominator" to those closest to him, Dominic was a vibrant, gregarious man who had a seemingly endless list of friends that he entertained with his quick wit and endearing sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeanne (Plante) Bombredi; four children, Donna Lucci and her husband Charles, Jeanne "Beana" Smyth and her husband Steve, Robert Bombredi, and Renee Bombredi-Juli and her husband Marza Juli; seven grandchildren, Jay Lucci and his wife Erica, Kayleigh Lucci, Mackenzie Stuart, Sebastian Stuart, Dominique Bombredi, Camden Bombredi, and Ethan Bombredi; one brother, Nicholas Bombredi. Dominic was born in Millbury, one block from the home he eventually built himself on Croyden Street. The youngest of eight children to Italian immigrants, Dominic graduated from Boys' Trade School in Worcester. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1951-53, he spent his professional career as a tool and dye maker, primarily for Allied Manufacturing.
His passions, however, were his family and New England life. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren, and he was at the center of every family gathering, acting the entertainer with his impish sense of humor, which never failed to generate a smile—especially his own. "Papa" held court at the dinner table and loved the home cooking of his wife, the former Jeanne Plante.
Dominic and Jeanne had a summer home at Old Orchard Beach in Maine for more than 30 years. He would listen to his beloved Red Sox on the radio, usually while he spent time with friends.
He loved all sports and was a faithful fan of the Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins. But baseball was his favorite and he was very proud of his years coaching youth baseball. He told countless stories about Ron Darling, the former Major Leaguer whom Dominic taught to pitch. He remained close friends with the Darling family until his death.
The family would like to thank VNA Hospice of Worcester, with a special thanks to Giselle, Kerie, Paul, and Claire for their care during Dominic's final months. They helped to comfort a man who will be dearly missed, and always remembered, by those who loved him.
His Communion Service will be held at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10th in St. Brigid Church, 59 Main St. in Millbury. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday Nov. 9th in the funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Care Hospice, 120 Thomas St. Worcester, MA 01608.
