MILLBURY – Donald Joseph Welch Sr., 75, of Millbury passed suddenly on Saturday, March 17th.
Don is survived by his wife of 46 years, Emilie M. (Fortune) Welch; his three children, Ann Marie Duddy and her husband Lawrence of Maynard, DJ Welch and his wife Jenn of Millbury and Patricia Daniels and her husband Ed of North Brookfield, MA. "Papa" also leaves behind his 8 grandchildren; Colleen, Kerrin, Sean, Kaylee, Justin, Nicolas, Jayden, and Jase; and one brother, Thomas Welch of Manchester, CT. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Richard Welch and William Welch.
Donald was born in Southbridge, the son of the late Thomas and Blanche (Love) Welch. He was a graduate of Mary E. Wells High School in 1955. He honorably served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserves and then went on to work at Saint-Gobain (formerly Norton Company) for 30 years.
Don was active in the Millbury community. He was a member of the Millbury Lions Club for over 24 years, and received the prestigious Melville Jones Fellowship Award, and served as King Lion in 2000 and 2001. He was also a member of the Auburn/Webster Elks. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. As "Chairman of the Board", he will be deeply missed.
His funeral will be held Friday, March 23rd from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 10 Waters St. in Millbury. Burial will be in Central Cemetery in Millbury. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 22nd in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Millbury Lions Foundation, P.O. Box 385 Millbury, MA 01527.
