Doris M. (Bergeron) Flynn, age 92, (formerly of Worcester and Leicester) passed away on Wednesday December 9, 2015 at Odd Fellows Nursing Home in Worcester surrounded by her family.
She was born in Auburn the daughter of Henry and Emelda (Duquette) Bergeron.
She leaves her children: Kathleen Marble and her husband Alan of Millbury and Michael Flynn of Grafton. Her six grandchildren: Charles Marble of Atlanta, GA., Andrew Marble and his wife Paola of Worcester, Christopher, Ryan, Thomas, and Caitlyn Flynn of Grafton.
Doris was a 1941 graduate of South High School in Worcester and then received her RN nursing degree from Worcester City Hospital in 1944. She served in WWII as a First Lt. in the Army Nurse Corp. stationed in France and Germany. She did private duty nursing when her children were young.
After her children were grown she returned to school and received her Bachelor's degree from St. Joseph's College in Maine in 1975. Going to school nights while working for the State of MA doing psychiatric counseling, she received her Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Anna Maria College in Paxton in 1977. She retired from the State of Ma as a community psychiatric mental health nurse/clinical specialist in 1992.
Doris was a loving, caring and generous mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was very athletic playing field hockey and tennis in high school and later enjoyed swimming, cross country skiing and continued playing tennis well into her 80's. She was a true sports fan attending her grandchildren's track, soccer, football, basketball and baseball games to cheer them on.
She enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading and walking but her greatest love was to be surrounded by her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Flora Kane.
Her family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale Eddy Pond West for their compassionate care and kindness to Doris for the last 3 and a half years and also Beacon Hospice and Odd Fellows Nursing Home for the short time that she was in their care.
Doris's calling hours will be held on Saturday, Dec. 19th from 11 a.m. to Noon in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main Street in Millbury.
Her funeral service will follow the calling hours in the funeral home at Noon. Burial will be held in West Millbury Cemetery.
