SUTTON - Doris M. (Putnam) Humes, 93, formerly of 297 Boston Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 16th in Beaumont Nuring and Rehabilitation Center, Northbridge, after an illness.
She was predeceased in 1966 by her husband, Gordon R. Humes and a daughter Barbara Humes. She is survived by nieces Joyce A. Smith of Sutton and Elizabeth (Humes) Kornblum of Ann Arbor, Michigan; a great nephew and niece, a great great niece, and cousins. Doris also leaves her many wonderful caregivers over the last few years.
Doris was born May 1, 1913, in Sutton, the daughter of Charles W. and Nellie (Adams) Putnam. She was a graduate of Sutton High School, owned and operated a beauty shop in Oxford before her marriage, and taught at Leo's Beauty School in Worcester and Kenneth's in Framingham. She later worked at Worcester State Hospital.
Doris was proud to be seen in the East Parlor of the WaterTM)s Farm on Water's Farm Days for many years, as it was a family home. Doris loved people, her family, her home, shopping, eating out, flowers, and travel.
Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18th in the First Congregational Church, on the common, Sutton. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the First Congregational Church, 312 Boston Rd., Sutton, MA 01590 or to Waters Farm, 4 Uxbridge Rd, Sutton Ma. 01590.
