Earl F. Karlson, 93, formerly of Millbury, MA, passed away peacefully in his sleep, after a long illness on July 26, 2013 at Grafton County Nursing Home.
He was born in Brockton, MA, the son of Frank Joseph Karlson and Eva (Menard) Karlson of Massachusetts.
He was a veteran of World War II serving as Aviation Ordnanceman, Second Class V-6 in the US Navy. He earned the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon (1-star) and the American Theatre Ribbon and was honorably discharged.
He married Claire T. (Bertrand) Karlson in 1951. They made their home in Millbury, MA. He worked as a highly skilled machinist in several firms, retiring from Cincinnati Milacron-Heald Corporation after 34 years of service in 1984.
He was initiated into the Catholic fraternal benefits organization, the Knights of Columbus, in1965 and received the honors of Fourth Degree in September 1966. Earl became an honorary life member in 1991. He enjoyed listening to all kinds of music, but especially bluegrass and classical. He loved using his computer and sending emails to his family to keep in touch.
He leaves his sister Beatrice (Karlson) Welch, nephew James Welch of Dorchester, MA, nieces Joanne (Saucier) Wallace of West Barnstable, MA, Mary Saucier Choate of Monroe, NH, Sandra (Lucas) Wagner of Waterford, NY, Susan Rodriguez-Buckley of Fayetteville, NY, nephew Joseph Brandt of Salisbury, NC, grandniece Joelle Augustine of Troy, NY, and several other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, his brother Frank Karlson, sisters Iola (Karlson) Rodriguez and Margaret (Karlson) Lucas, and grandnephew Thomas E. Wallace.
Earl's funeral service and burial were private. Donations may be made in his memory to the local animal rescue organization of your choice.
