Edward Cooney

January 6, 1931 — July 8, 2005

MILLBURY Edward J. Cooney Sr., 74, of 98 West Main St., formerly of Elmwood St. and Falmouth, died Friday, July 8th at UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, Patricia A. (Herbst) Cooney; three sons, Edward J. Cooney Jr. and his wife, Carol of Millbury, Joseph J. Cooney and his wife Nicole of Millbury and Peter J. Cooney of Grafton; two daughters, Patricia M. Para and her husband Dale of North Oxford and Marie L. Robertson and her husband Brian of Perry Hall, Maryland; several grandchildren. He is also survived by a large extended family of brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester and raised in Auburn. He was a graduate of St. JohnTM)s High School, Worcester State Teachers College and Boston University.

Mr. Cooney was a guidance counselor for the Worcester Public School System for 32 years, retiring in 1989. He was an Army veteran during the Korean War, an active member in Millbury town government and a writer for the Millbury Sutton Chronicle.

His funeral will be held Tuesday, July 12th from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. BrigidTM)s Church, 59 Main St., Millbury. Burial will be in Central Cemetery, Millbury. Calling hours are 9 to 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, prior to the funeral, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Why Me Inc., 1152 Pleasant St., Worcester, MA 01602.
