SUTTON - Edward Stevens King, 88, of Sutton, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, in Radius HealthCare of Millbury, after a long illness.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, M. Marthena (King) King; two sons, E. Perry King and T. A. King, both of Sutton; a daughter, Cynthia Vanderlinden of Sutton; four granddaughters, Danielle Ferreira of Northbridge, Laura, Kathleen and Britney King all of Sutton; two grandsons, Joshua and Jairus King of Sutton; a great granddaughter, Lindsey Ferreira; a brother, Wesley King of Springfield, Vt.; a sister, Marion Duck of Auburn; nephews and nieces. He was born in Sutton, son of Wallace and Ethel (Woodbury) King has lived in Sutton all his life. Four brothers, Everett, Dwight, Norman and George King and a sister, Dorothy Ploch, predeceased him. He graduated from Millbury High School in 1934 and from Ryan Aeronautical School in San Diego, Ca. in 1937.
Mr. King was a machinist by trade and worked many years at Leland Gifford Co. in Worcester. He then worked at the George C. Richards Co. in Worcester and Hutchinson Machine, of Sutton. He was a service representative in New England for Besley WellTM)s Corp for 12 years and was self employed as a tool grinder for 12 years, before he retired.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church for over 50 years. He was chairman of the churchTM)s Finance Committee, and Superintendent of their Sunday School and a member of the churchs former Mens Club. He was a former member of the Sutton Grange where he served as Master and held other officers and a former member of the Sutton Fire Department and a Sutton election Warden for 25 years.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, in the First Congregational Church 307 Boston Rd. Burial will be private. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Organ Fund of the First Congregational Church, 307 Boston Rd., Sutton, Ma. 01590 or to the Activity Fund of Radius HealthCare of Millbury, 29 Main St., Millbury, Ma. 01527
