MILLBURY- Edward W. Rice Jr., 75, of 9 Dewey Ave., affectionately known as Mr. Ed, passed into eternal peace on Friday, June 23, 2006 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.
He leaves his beloved wife of 53 years, June E. (Carey) Rice; two daughters, Debra A. Couture of Millbury and Kimberly J. Fay of Millbury; a son, Wayne F. Rice of Pawtucket, RI; four grandchildren, Kerie Couture and her husband George Kentar of Worcester, Marcie wife of Anthony Barron of Sutton, Jessica Orne of Spencer and his beloved Amanda Fay of Millbury; two great-grandchildren, Myla and T.J. Barron of Sutton; a brother, Donald R. and his wife Pauline Rice of Cape Coral, FL; a sister, Patricia Army of South Dennis MA. He also leaves sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, who loved him dearly and nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester and is predeceased by his parents, Edward W. Rice Sr. and Mildred G. (Greene) Rice and a son Edward W. Rice III, who died November 2004.
Mr. Rice lived most of his life in Millbury and began his career as an oil burner technician at Howe Petroleum in Millbury and then worked at Sutton Fuel in Sutton for 15 years, before retiring. In his later years, he was a host camper at Salisbury State Park for nine years and was also a school bus driver for the town of Millbury. He was an Air Force veteran during the Korean Conflict and was a life member of the Charles F. Minney Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, in Millbury.
His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 28th in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury. Burial will be in Central Cemetery. Calling hours are 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 27 in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Mass. Chapter 311 Arsenal Street Watertown, MA 02472 or to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
