MILLBURY Edward E. Ryan Jr., 78, died Tuesday, Jan. 5th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, after being stricken ill.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Betty Ann (Pietro) Ryan; three sons, Edward E. Ryan III of Auburn, James F. Ryan and his wife Donna of Worcester and Michael S. Ryan and his wife Shawn of Millbury; two daughters, Patricia A. Taft of Cape Cod and Kelley A. Willard and her husband Jason of Auburn; a sister, A. Claire Provencal of Oxford; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester and is predeceased by his parents, Edward E. Ryan Sr. and C. Anita (Turcotte) Ryan, a brother, Richard Ryan and a sister, Jeanne Bedard.
Mr. Ryan was a bus driver for 30 years with the WRTA of Worcester, retiring in 1989. He also worked at State Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Worcester. He was a 3rd Degree member in the Knights of Columbus and a 4th Degree member of the Alhambra Council Knights of Columbus in Worcester. He was a volunteer for the Millbury Council on Aging at the Millbury Senior Center for the past 18 years and a senior usher and a Eucharistic Minister at St. StephenTM)s Church in Worcester. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, TV game shows, walking, listing to his police scanner, candlepin bowling and his grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend.
His funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 9th from the Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury, with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. StephenTM)s Church 357 Grafton St. in Worcester. Burial will be in Central Cemetery in Millbury. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8th in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. StephenTM)s Restoration Fund, 16 Hamilton St., Worcester, MA 01604.
