MILLBURY Edward W. Rice III, 50, of 23 Martin St., died Wednesday, Nov. 10th in his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a four month battle with cancer. He leaves his beloved parents, Edward W. Rice Jr. and June E. (Carey) Rice of Millbury; two devoted sisters, Debra A. Couture of Sutton and Kimberly J. Fay of Millbury; one loving brother, Wayne F. Rice of Woonsocket, R. I.; 4 nieces, Kerie Couture, Marcie Barron, Jessica Orne and the loves of his life, Amanda Fay, a great niece Myla Barron and a great nephew, Anthony "T.J." Barron Jr.; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a life long friend, David Harackiewicz of Sutton. He also leaves his co-workers and close friends from the Leominster post office and all his friends from the St. Jean Club in Leominster. He was born in Bourne and lived in Millbury most of his life. He graduated from Millbury Memorial High School in 1972.
He worked for the U. S. Postal in the Leominster post office as a letter carrier for the past 18 years. Previously he drove a tour bus for Fox Bus Lines and worked as a machinist for Swiss Line Products in Millbury. Ed was an avid out doors man who enjoyed hunting fishing and camping. He also loved the thrill of bungee jumping, parachuting, free falling, white water rafting and flying. He owned his own air plane for many years and recently had taken a great interest in radio controlled planes, with his friend Joseph White. He also loved the Red Soxs, the Patroits and NASCAR racing. He was a loving awesome guy who will be missed by his family and many friends who were all there for him through his illness.
His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12th in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury Burial will be in Central Cemetery, Millbury. Calling hours are 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11th, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Care Hospice, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, Ma. 01608-1280.
