Elaine B. Ritzen, 84, passed away peacefully on August 4th, 2016.
Elaine's husband, Cyril L. Ritzen passed away in 1992. She leaves eight children: John Tallmadge, Roy Ritzen, Dawn LaRocco, Cheryl Krehbiel, Jennifer Stewart, Peter Ritzen, Pamela Joseph and Cynthia Jacobson; thirteen grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.
Elaine was a woman of many accomplishments who never stopped pursuing her dreams. While caring for eight children, she went back to school and obtained her Master's Degree in Education from Rhode Island College. Upon graduation, she began a 22-year teaching career with the Johnston Public Schools.
She was a passionate gardener who truly had a green thumb, an avid hiker, and a volunteer at multiple charities, and in particular her church. Not one to be idle in retirement, she swam competitively in the Senior Olympics, winning several gold medals. She started an acting career in her 70's performing with several local theater groups. She believed in giving to others of her time, her resources, and her prayers. She was a wonderful woman, strong and caring, who raised a beautiful family who embody her best values of charity, compassion and ambition.
Elaine's memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 13th at 2 p.m. at the Millbury Baptist Church, 17 N. Main Street in Millbury. A celebration of her life will follow the service at the Asa Waters Mansion, 123 Elm Street in Millbury. There will be no calling hours and burial will be private at the request of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Walking In Light, P.O. Box 906, Douglas, MA 01516. Walking In Light is a family ministry that serves Worcester and Blackstone Valley, providing support for the homeless, the working poor and Elaine's favorite, a summer camp for underprivileged children.
