Northbridge— Eleanor C. (Tolman) George 87, previously of Millbury and Sutton, passed away peacefully December 26, 2014, in Whitney Place of Northbridge.
She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Harold P. George, Sr; her sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Janice George of Spencer; Kenneth and Denise George of Shrewsbury, Jeffrey and Annette George of Charlemont; her son, David George of Swansea, her daughters and sons-in law, Judith and Thaddeus Laskowski of Sandwich, Ellen and Kenneth Brackley of Charlton and her sisters-in-law Burlene Tolman of Knoxville, Tn, and Eilleen George of Millbury; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, John Tolman, Robert Tolman and Mary King. She was born November 29, 1927 in Worcester, the daughter of John and Alice (Beck) Tolman.
Eleanor was a wonderful mother raising six children. Additionally she was employed selling Avon, worked as a waitress at many local restaurants including Aunt Mary's, Mooskian's, and The Buggy Whip. She worked at the Sutton Drive-In and at Telechron, and as a substitute teacher in the Northbridge Elementary Schools. She lived in Whitinsville on Purgatory Rd. for many years and returned to Millbury in her later years.
She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Sutton where she sang in the church choir and was a member of the Altar Guild. She was a volunteer at the Elmwood Street School in Millbury. She enjoyed camping at Cape Cod, dancing, knitting, sewing, and any craft. She enjoyed having her grand-children for sleepovers. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staffs at the Whitney Place and Beaumont facilities in Northbridge.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11a.m. on Tuesday December 30th at St. John's Episcopal Church, 3 Pleasant St. in Sutton. Burial will be private and there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 3 Pleasant St., Sutton, MA 01590.
