Elizabeth Lore

SUTTON - Elizabeth Kit Lore, 61, unexpectedly passed away Sunday, September 18th in the loving arms of her family at UMass Memorial, while still waging a courageous yearlong fight against Stage IV Cancer. She leaves behind her mother, Rebecca (MacIver) Lore of Sutton along with her five siblings; Jozsef Lore and his wife Carolyn of California, Franz Lore and his wife Nathalie of Pennsylvania, Jennifer Callahan and her husband Michael of Oxford, Attila Lore of Sutton, Rebecca Snyder and her husband Jay of Sutton. She also is survived by her nieces and nephews; Alexandre, Jozsef, Sarah and Rachel. Her beloved father Jozsef Lore predeceased her.

Liz was born on April 1, 1961 and was raised in Sutton, Massachusetts on the former family-operated Lore Orchards. She experienced a colorful childhood surrounded by nature and a shared understanding of need to help support the farm that in turn supported the family as a whole. Early years were busy with seasonal farming activities like picking, grading and packing apples, pruning trees and stacking brush, and selling apples at the roadside stands. However, there was always time for her to go skating on Marble Pond, sledding down the hills of the Orchard, building tree forts, directing backyard plays, hosting haunted barn tours and even creating a neighborhood library out of a former chicken coop, so kids to take out books to read. As a child, she was extremely bright, caring and inquisitive. These traits served to shape her growing educational interests, career pursuits and personal accomplishments.

She was truly a remarkable leader, who was fearless in the ways she sought to experience the world around her, understand what is truly important in life and share alternate cultural perspectives. After graduating from Notre Dame Academy in Worcester, she attended Carnegie Mellon University and obtained degrees in both Mechanical Engineering and French and Francophone Studies. She was multilingual and studied at the Ecole Polytechnique Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland.

She had an extensive career in engineering and business operations in Europe rising to executive board leadership positions, including at the David Brown Group, where she was responsible for worldwide marketing and corporate business development strategy for mobile equipment drives. She later built her own successful company, Marketing Analytics Ltd, based in the United Kingdom. Simultaneously, while building her corporate client portfolio, she obtained a postgraduate degree in marketing and digital marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. While living abroad, she frequently visited her relatives living in the village of Verseg, Hungary.

Despite being an exceptional business leader, Liz wanted to delve more into her creative interests, so she left the corporate world behind to start an exciting journey to explore the art world. She challenged her growing understanding of painting and subject matter, by completing a Fine Arts degree from the Arts University in Bournemouth in England. Liz thrived in the realms of artistic expression and went on to become an accomplished Fine Artist working in paint, printmaking and photography. While in Europe, she exhibited in shows in Budapest, Hungary as well as in Salisbury, Bournemouth and London, UK.

One area of the world she felt very inspired to paint was in Nova Scotia, Canada. She loved the landscape and reflective light emitted by both the ocean and bays. Her subject matter evolved to include still life, florals and landscape that she abstracted to combine texture, line and form to push the boundaries of understanding and recognition. Her work (installation, photos and paintings) explore the links between humans and nature. Her paintings depict these themes, using grids, poured paint, and drawn lines to create abstract images that evolve intuitively into images reminiscent of landscapes or flowers. While painting she continued to pursue her love of linguistics by completing a degree in French Literature and Linguistics at the Université Sainte-Anne in Nova Scotia, Canada.

She has exhibited in Nova Scotia in Galerie Trécarré in Church Point, Annapolis Royal, Bear River and Sandy Cove. Liz was a past board member of the Annapolis Region Community Arts Council, and was a member of Les Arts de la Baie and Visual Arts Nova Scotia. To create an ever-changing natural canvas for her artistic eye to capture, she became an avid gardener. She designed beautiful seasonal gardens and knew the Latin nomenclature of plants, trees and flowers like nobody’s business!

Liz’s graveside service will be held this Saturday, September 24th at 11:00 AM at the Pigeon Hill Cemetery, 178R Mendon Road in Sutton. There will be a memorial reception to follow at Blackstone National Golf Club, Sutton, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill.
