MILLBURY/SUTTON - Ernest “Ernie” Randell passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, at the age of 90, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Mary Jane (Wickham) Randell, and his children: Maureen and her husband Patrick Marek of Winona, MN; Thomas Randell and his wife Barbara of Auburn; Stephen Randell and his wife Kerrie of Sutton; John Randell and his wife Julieanna of Millbury; and Michael Randell and his wife Amy of Grafton. He was a beloved grandfather to 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Ernie was predeceased by his parents, Chesley and Josephine (Ryan) Randell, his sister Priscilla Goodless, brothers William, Frederick, Robert, and Bernard Randell, his son Joseph Randell, and his grandson Joshua Randell.
Raised in Worcester’s Tatnuck Square neighborhood, Ernie met the love of his life, Mary Jane, there. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1961, stationed in Germany and Fort Benning in Georgia. Following his military service, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years, retiring in 1990.
Ernie and Mary Jane built their home and raised their family in Millbury, MA, where he was an active member of the community. He coached Little League, served as a boy scout leader, and was a dedicated member of St. Brigid’s Parish.
In retirement, Ernie enjoyed golfing with friends, solving Sudoku puzzles, and attending weekly “board meetings” (coffee gatherings) at Dunkin’ Donuts and McDonald’s. He was a passionate New England Patriots fan and loved walking in the woods with cherished dogs: Simone, Mr. Wilson, Chopper, and Rosie.
Above all, Ernie’s greatest joy was his family. He treasured his time with his beloved wife, Mary Jane, his children, grandchildren, and his “Number 1s” (his daughters-in-law and son-in-law). Being called "Papa" was a title he wore with pride, and his family was the center of his world.
Family and friends are invited to honor Ernie’s life at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury, MA, on Wednesday, February 26th, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
