CHARLTON – Ethel E. (Dickinson) McKinnon Ekstrom, 86, passed away Saturday, October 3, peacefully at home with her family by her side. Ethel was born in Auburn and lived there most of her life.
She leaves behind, her three children, her son, Alan David McKinnon and his wife, Sara McKinnon, her son, Donald Mark Mckinnon and his wife, Gerry McKinnon and her daughter, Robin Ruth LaPorta and her husband, Brian LaPorta. She also leaves her four step children, Keith Ekstrom and his wife, Mary Ekstrom, Pam Morrison and her husband, Mike Morrison, Neal Ekstrom and Jane Ekstrom. Ethel leaves fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul L. F. Ekstrom, her father Bert K. Dickinson, her mother, Bertha E. Cotter, her brother Roger B. Dickinson.
Ethel graduated from Girls Trade, Worcester in 1946. She went on to work for several companies as a seamstress, which happened to be her trade in school. She adopted her three children and raised them with love, good values and work ethics. She retired with her husband in 1994. While staying in Florida three months out of the year she took up oil painting, and with the classes she took, became a very talented artist. She truly enjoyed painting. She and her husband Paul, traveled to many places and saw many wonderful sights. They spent much time with their family and friends creating great memories.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7th in the Charlton City United Methodist Church, 74 Stafford St. in Charlton. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6th in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury. Burial will be private in Central Cemetery in Millbury. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
