Eugene F. LaCava, Sr., 86, died Friday, April 25, 2014 in Holy Trinity Nursing Center in Worcester surrounded by his loving family.
Eugene's wife, Mildred M. (Abdella) LaCava died in 1994. He leaves four sons, Francis LaCava and his wife, Nina of Uxbridge, Paul LaCava and his wife, Joan of Worcester, Eugene LaCava, Jr. and his wife, Kelly of Sutton and James LaCava and his wife, Sherry of Ledyard, CT; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Michael and Sarah (Fitzpatrick) LaCava; three brothers and two sisters.
Gene was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. Gene graduated high school at Sacred Heart Academy. He was an avid athlete in his younger years, playing basketball and baseball in high school and many years in the former Worcester Industry Baseball League. Gene was recognized for over ten thousand hours of volunteered services at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester and was very active in the deaf community, becoming an expert signer and coaching basketball for the Worcester Deaf Basketball Team. He also directed many musical events for charity in the Worcester area. Gene worked for American Linen and Muirs Linen and Laundry Service for many years serving as manager and general manger. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Holy Trinity Nursing Center for all their loving care and support.
Eugene's Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 3rd at 11 a.m. in St. Mark's Church, 356 Boston Road in Sutton. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Sutton Senior Center Food Pantry, 19 Hough Road, Sutton, MA 01590.
