Floyd Miller

October 24, 1923 — April 30, 2009

WORCESTER Floyd T. Miller, 85, died Thursday, April 30th in the company of his loving family while at UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

His wife, Ora E. (Cote) Miller died in 2000. He leaves two daughters, Debra J. Miller of Worcester and Susan L. wife of Donald Rainville of Millbury; two grandchildren, Donald F. Rainville Jr. and his wife Heather of Florida and Leah S. Rainville of Millbury; two great grandchildren, Jacob and Logan Rainville; a sister, Barbara Russell of Michigan; nephews and nieces; his constant companion - his red haired dachshund, Tootsie. He was born in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, son of Floyd Hoke Miller and Laura (Ragland) Miller.

Floyd grew up in Flint, MI surrounded by the booming auto industry. The son of General Motors laborer, he joined the Navy and studied at Columbia University and Worcester Polytechnic Institute receiving his degree in Engineering. While studying at WPI, Floyd met his wife-to-be, Ora. After WWII, he began his career as an engineer for the General Motors Company, moving his growing family from Flint, MI, to Framingham, MA, Chicago, IL and Rochester, NY. Eventually, Mr. Miller settled down in Worcester, prior to his retirement in 1980.

Mr. Miller was a thoughtful, quiet man who was fascinated by world history, amazed by nature and proud of his family. He shared his home with his daughter, Debra who cared for and enabled him to enjoy and live out his days at home. In the weeks prior to his death, Floyd was excited to learn he would be expecting the arrival of a 3rd great-grandson in September.

His funeral will be held Tuesday, May 5th from the Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St. in Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 4th in the funeral home.
