SUTTON – Francis Albert Gatto, 75, died Wednesday, Oct. 12th, surrounded by his loving daughters after an illness.

He is predeceased by his wife of fifty years, Frances S. (LeClaire) Gatto who died in 2004, a grandson, David M. Jannery who died in 2010 and his parents, Ernest F. and Rita M. (Dube) Gatto.

He leaves four daughters, Debra, wife of John Donovan of Marco Island, FL, Teresa, wife of Mark Jannery of Millbury, Robin, wife of Terry Turley of Suwanee Georgia, and Lisa, wife of David Cellucci of Douglas; a son, Michael F. Gatto of Martha's Vineyard; 16 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He leaves his brother, Ernest Gatto of Webster and three sisters, Gail Atherton, of New Hampshire, Gerri Festa, of Connecticut, and Rita Brausam of Arizona. He also leaves a sister-in-law and two brother-in-laws.

In 1953, Mr. Gatto graduated from South High School in Worcester. After marrying Frances LeClaire of Southbridge, on October 30, 1954, Mr. and Mrs. Gatto resided in Westborough where he served on the town police force.

Mr. Gatto was the president and treasurer of F.A. Gatto, Inc., of Worcester. In 1974, he moved his family to Sutton where he found pleasure in owning and tending a gentleman's farm known as, Crestwood Stables.

Francis enjoyed flying his airplanes along with his wife. They flew to various destinations attending airplane owners and pilot association plantation events. He also enjoyed traveling via recreational vehicle throughout the country as he entered the ATA circuit competitions. He was a well-known and accomplished trap shooter.

Mr. Gatto served as Trap Chairman at the Eight Point Sportsmen Club in Sterling. He enjoyed being competitive and mentoring new shooters and seasoned alike. Upon retiring as Chairman, his grandson, Paul Donovan assumed this position.

In 1978, he was elected as Trustee of Millbury Savings Bank. In 1985 he was elected to Vice President. Years ago, he was elected as Selectman for the town of Sutton. He also served on the Conservation Commission in recent years. He was honored to be a member of the Knights of Columbus.

His beloved family, along with his best friend, "Miss Sadie", his Britney Spaniel, will greatly miss him.

His funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 17th from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 Main St. in Millbury. Burial will be in West Sutton Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16th in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
