WORCESTER Francis "Frank" Polanik, 85, of 110 Pineland Ave., died Monday, May 21st in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus.
He leaves his wife, Carmela J. (Cataldo) Polanik; five children, Joseph G. Polanik of NC, Judith M. wife of John Culver of West Stockbridge, Mary F. wife of Reggie Sherman of Auburn, Michael A. and his wife Jeanne Polanik of Auburn, NH and Sandra J. Polanik wife of Robert Nesbitt Sr. of Auburn; eight grandchildren, Kimball, Alison, Brian, Jessica, Justin, Jillian, Andrew and Erik; a great granddaughter, Gaea; two brothers, John A. Polanik of Auburn and Gregory Polanik of Southborough; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Gregory and Catherine (Kapulka) Polanik. He received his Associates Degree in Engineering from Worcester Junior College.
Mr. Polanik was Principal Civil Engineer for the City of Worcester, where he worked for 42 years, retiring in 1990. He was a navy veteran during WW II serving on the USS Washington in the Pacific. Frank was a volunteer and treasurer for St. AnneTM)s Church Human Services. He enjoyed working in his garden, tinkering around the house and trips to the ocean. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
His funeral will be held Thursday, May 24th from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. AnneTM)s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 23rd in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. AnneTM)s Church Human Services in care of Elaine LeBlanc, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
