MILLBURY – Francis X. Powers, 68, died Sunday, Feb. 8th in his home, after a long illness.
He leaves his wife, Ellen T. (Faron) Powers; a brother-in-law, Dr. Joseph R. Godzik of Scituate; nephews and nieces among which are, J.P. Godzik and family of Landenberg, PA, Lynn Fenton and family of Bartlett, IL, Brian Godzik and family of Plymouth and Katherine wife of David Gudgel and their family of Seattle, WA; special close friends, Donald and Patricia McGoldrick of Worcester. He was born in Worcester and is predeceased by his parents, Francis X. and Mary E. (Hayden) Powers and a sister, Betsy Godzik. He graduated from the former Classical High School in Worcester and attended St. Michael's College in Vermont.
Francis was a manager at Professional Security Bureau for many years before he retired. He was a U. S. Marine veteran. He was a member of the Southborough Rod and Gun Club and the New England Fly Tiers. He enjoyed hiking, hunting and the outdoors. He was only moderately addicted to salt water fly fishing. His family would like to express their thanks, for the loving care he received from VNA Care Hospice, during his illness.
His funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 13th from the Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 Main St. in Millbury. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Worcester. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12th in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Care Network, Inc. Development Office 120 Thomas Street Worcester, MA 01608-1280 or to the Auburn District Nursing Association 191 Pakachoag Street Auburn, MA 01501.
