MILLBURY – Francis R. Vaillancourt, 83, died Saturday, May 23rd after being stricken ill at home. He was born in Millbury on May 5th in 1926, the second son of Arsene and Angelina (Carignan) Vaillancourt. He was a lifelong resident of Millbury. He graduated from Assumption School and Millbury High School in 1945. He was a World War II veteran, having joined the Army-Air Force directly after high school. He served in Africa and Europe as a B-17 mechanic. He married Barbara L. Collette, his true love, on August 7, 1948, and he was dedicated to her during their 60 years of marriage. He made his career as a photographer and operated Vaillancourt Studios for over 30 years. He also was the manager of the photography and mask making department at Sprague Electric in Worcester until 1986. In his retirement he worked for his son, Gary, at his business, Vaillancourt Folk Art.

He leaves his wife, Barbara; three sons, Gary Vaillancourt and his wife Judi of Sutton, MA , Guy Vaillancourt and his wife Pat of Saco, ME and Dana Vaillancourt and his wife Mary Ellen of Huron, SD; three brothers, Arsene Vaillancourt of Cape Cod, Robert Vailancourt of Millbury, Ronald Vailancourt of Douglas and his sister, Lucienne LaRose of Northbridge. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren, Anna Hall, as well as Daniel, Luke, Maura and Loren Vaillancourt. He was predeceased by his parents; four siblings, Maurice, Lorraine Witkowski, Nora May Dalpe and Gail Rawinski; and three grandchildren, Micah, Samuel and Kelson.

His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 2nd at the First Congregational Church, 148 West Main St. in Millbury. Burial will be in Central Cemetery in Millbury. Calling hours are on Monday, June 1st from 5 to 8 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury.
