Frederick Lucas

MILLBURY Frederick E. Lucas, 87, of 10 Canal St., died Sunday, Sept. 2nd at Millbury Health Care Center.

His wife, of 58 years, Joan A. (Cleary) Lucas, died in 2001. He leaves, four sons, Gary F. Lucas and his wife Nancy of East Freetown, Brian R. Lucas and his wife Carol of Harwich Port, Frederick W. Lucas and his wife Kari of Midlothian, Virginia and Thomas J. Lucas and his wife Laurie of Millbury; three daughters, Barbara A. wife of Gene Lavallee of Millbury, J. Charlene wife of Robert Grenier of Bernardston and Mary A. wife of Joseph Vecchione of Uxbridge; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. He was born in Millbury and is predeceased by his parents, Frederick W. and Catherine T. (Delaney) Lucas, two brothers, Donald and Robert Lucas and a sister, Catherine MacDonald.

Mr. Lucas was the Millbury Veterans Agent for 20 years, retiring in 1982. It was his passion to serve veterans. He was a former Millbury Selectman for 13 years and also served as chairman of the board.

Mr. Lucas was a 1st Lieutenant tank platoon leader in WW II, serving in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal with Valor. He was part of the Campaigns in Northern France, the Rhineland and Ardennas. He then enlisted in the Army Reserve in Nov. of 1952 and was honorably discharged as Captain in Feb. 1961. He was a member of the Vernon Hill American Legion Post in Worcester and the Charles F. Minney V.F.W. Post. He was a former member of the D.A.V. Chapter #4 in Worcester, the Worcester County Veterans Agent Assoc. and the Massachusetts Veterans Agent Assoc. He graduated from Millbury High School in 1938 and attended the former BeckerTM)s Business College in Worcester. He was honored to be selected as Grand Marshall of the 2007 Millbury Lions Club Independence Day Parade. He was a founding member of the Millbury Little League and was honored to be inducted into the Millbury High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

His funeral will be held Friday, Sept. 7th from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 10 Waters St., Millbury. Burial will be in St. BrigidTM)s Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6th in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Renovation Fund of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 12 Waters St., Millbury, MA 01527.
