HOLDEN - G. Joseph Gribouski, 84, of 6 Steele Street, died March 5, 2006 at home.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Elaine E. (Bailey) Gribouski; three sons, James J. and his wife, Margaret Gribouski of Sutton; Jeffrey M. and his wife, Dolores Gribouski of Holden, and John P. Gribouski of Maryland; two daughters, Joan M., wife of Robert Lundin of Hollis, Maine and Joyce E., wife of Charles Miller III of Lunenburg; a brother, Vincent Gribauskas of Grafton, a sister, Anna Desmaris of Worcester; his ten beloved grandchildren, Aaron, Shaun, Sarah, Heather, Eileen, Jill, Jeff, Monica, Charlie, and Scott; nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his daughter, Jane A. Newell, as well as by seven brothers and sisters.
Joe was born in Worcester, son of Michael and Monika M. (Batulavich) Gribouski. He was raised in Sutton and graduated from Sutton High School in 1940. He then attended the College of the Holy Cross but his education was interrupted to serve with the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. When he returned from duty, he continued his education and graduated from the University of Massachusetts. He later obtained his Master's degree in Education from Worcester State College.
Joe was a career-long educator, first as a teacher of agriculture at Wachusett Regional High School, then as an extension specialist for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and then as a State 4-H leader in Ashland for 30 years from which he retired in 1987. He was recognized in 2002 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for outstanding service to 4-H.
He was a founding member and past commander of the Dudley-Gendron American Legion Post in Sutton and a member of the Massachusetts Agricultural Club, the National Grange, and the 4-H.
JosephTM)s funeral will be held Wednesday, March 8th from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, with a celebration of Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Brigid's Church, 59 Main Street, Millbury. Burial will be in St. Brigid's Cemetery, Millbury. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 7th at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Joseph's honor to the Columbus Park School PTO, 75 Lovell Street, Worcester, MA 01603.
