MILLBURY George J. Alek, 81, of 22 Canal St., died Wednesday, April 25th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus, Worcester, after an automobile accident.
His wife Pauline T. (Anger) Brodeur Alek died in 2004. He leaves his dearest friend, Doris McCourt of Whitinsville; two sisters, Therese Bannon of Oakdale, CT and Patricia Malaquias of Hyannis; four nieces, Maria, Diane, Lynne and Karen; loving step-children, Suzanne Gardner and Janice Despres both of Millbury, Louise Buma of Webster and Elise Matteson of Brookfield; loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Alek served in the U.S. Army in WW II, during which time he received the Purple Heart. He was employed in food sales prior to retiring. He was involved in the local senior citizen groups and especially enjoyed his time playing pool and recently received an award for excellence. George was a lover of people and he found great joy in socializing with others. He found great pleasure in reading and listening to music. George was a communicant of St. BrigidTM)s Church.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, May 2nd from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. BrigidTM)s Church, 59 Main St., Millbury. Burial will be private in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Visitation will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nazareth Home for Boys, 47 Mulberry St., Leicester, MA 01524.
