MILLBURY - George E. Buron, age 85, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester after an illness.

George leaves his wife of 54 years, Judith M. (Malo) Buron; five children Eric J. Buron and his wife, Edwina of Warren, Ohio, Sheila M. Tomaiolo and her husband, Rick of Shrewsbury, Sharon M. Gillette of Huizhou, China,  Lynn A. Moseley and her husband, Frederick of Millbury and Jennifer E.Washburn and her husband, Mark of Waxahachie, TX; ten grandchildren Christina Tomaiolo-Giedraitis, Danielle Gillette, Patrick Moseley, Alexander Gillette, Brandon Moseley,  Shannon Buron, Peter Tomaiolo, Samuel Gillette, Elizabeth Moseley, and Lindsey Washburn; as well as two great-grandchildren. In addition, he also leaves his nieces and nephews Bonnie Oliver, Stephen Saucier, Susan Saucier, Matthew Mulhane, and Emily Mulhane.  George was predeceased by his mother and father Thyra (Hillsen) Buron Provost and Oscar Buron, his step father Victor Provost, his first wife Helen E. (McManus), and his sister Lillian Oliver.

Born in Worcester, George lived in Millbury for almost 55 years. He graduated from Commerce High in Worcester, Wentworth Institute, Central New England College, and Northeastern University. He was Veteran of the Massachusetts National Guard and a four-year Navy Veteran having served in Naval Aviation during the Korean War.

He worked at Norton Company for 31 years starting in Central Engineering as a Draftsman and finishing his career as the Plant Manager for Technical Ceramics. During his Norton career he was a Chief Engineer and involved in the engineering development and marketing of the Norton Ceramic Armor Systems. These armor systems were used for personal body armor and as key components in both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters during the Vietnam War.  After retiring from Norton Company, he was the Assistant Director Facilities at Assumption College for seven years retiring in 1994.

A member of Saint Brigid Church, George served the town as Committee Chairmen of Boy Scout Troop 108; Chairman of the Millbury Municipal Office Study and Building Committees; and Chairman of the Town Water Study Committee.  As an elected Sewerage Commissioner, he was instrumental in the development of the master plan and the expansion of the Millbury’s sewerage handling system. He was member of the Veterans of Foreign War, Charles F. Minney Post 3329; American Legion Post 9; the Korean War Veterans of Central MA; the National Korean War Veterans Association; and the Retired Men’s Club of Greendale.  He also served for many years as the Co-Coordinator of the Pine Ridge C.C. Golf League.

Family and friends will honor and remember George’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Sunday, Sept. 16th from 3 to 6 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.

His funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 17th at 11:15 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 N. Main Street in Millbury.  Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
