GRAFTON – George A. Orne, 92, of South Grafton, born on July 4th died Monday, January 10th in the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Northbridge.
George's wife, Dorothy P. (Perkins) Orne died in 1996. He leaves three sons, George W. Orne and his wife, Darlene, Gary E. Orne and his wife, Rene, Darrell R. Orne, a daughter, Eleanor J. Carroll and her husband, Joseph all of Grafton; six grandchildren, Todd Carroll, Scott, Kevin, Melissa, Jason and Justin Orne; six great grandchildren; a brother, Albert Orne of Spencer; many nephews and nieces. He was born and raised in Millbury and is predeceased by his parents, Carl and Eva (Castonguay) Orn and six siblings. He graduated from Millbury High School and moved to Grafton in 1951.
Mr. Orne was a buyer for Associated Grocers in Worcester for over 30 years until they closed. He then went into business on his own selling and delivering produce to area businesses until he retired. He was an Army veteran during WW II serving in Asiatic-Pacific Theater, Guadalcanal and New Guinea. He loved gardening, landscaping and vacationing in New Hampshire.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Northbridge for their compassion and care.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14th in Mulhane Home for Funerals 45 Main St. in Millbury. His funeral service will be held at Noon Saturday, Jan. 15th in the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be private in Maplewood Cemetery, Upton. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Massachusetts Veterans Inc. 69 Grove Street Worcester, MA 01605.
