OXFORD – George A. Pelkey, 69, died Tuesday, Jan 15th at Hubbard Harrington Hospital in Webster after being stricken ill.
He leaves his wife, JoAnne L. (Cullan) Pelkey; a son, Scott J. Pelkey of Millbury; a daughter, Lisa Strapponi and her husband, Steven of Millbury; his former wife, Kathleen S. Pelkey of Millbury; three grandchildren, Amber Pelkey and Sophia and Addison Strapponi of Millbury; a sister, Rita Bernard and her husband David of Florida; nephews and several cousins. He was born in Worcester and is predeceased by his parents, Howard A. and Angelina M. (Guenette) Pelkey and a brother, Howard Pelkey.
George was a carpenter for local 475 for many years and also worked for himself in cabinet making and construction. Recently he worked part time for Lelanite in Webster. For fun George enjoyed his summer cookout bashes, including epic water gun and silly string fights. George’s favorite holiday was Christmas where he hosted big Christmas parties, enjoyed by all. George also loved his Thursday afternoon play dates and Saturday night game nights with the grand kids. He was also an avid model train collector and enjoyed summer vacations in York Beach, Maine.
Family and friends will honor and remember George’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Monday, Jan. 21st from 4 to 7 pm at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 22nd at 10 a.m. at St. Brigid Church, 59 N. Main St. in Millbury. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
I n lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. or the American Heart Association.
