George Stowe

MILLBURY – George B. Stowe, 93, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family, Saturday, Sept. 19th.

His wife, Ruth Anna (Higginson) Stowe died in 1950. He leaves a daughter, Amy E. wife of Dean Peterson of Millbury; three granddaughters, Deanna R. wife of Michael Murray of Millbury, Leah B. wife of Thomas Murphy of Oxford and Maura S. wife of Jay O'Connor of Millbury; seven great-grandchildren; his long time sweet heart of 28 years, Dorothy Schonning. He was born in Millbury and is predeceased by his sons, Justin C. and Jonathan Stowe and his parents, Oscar H. and Alice M. (Brigham) Stowe.

George owned and operated Stowe Farm Apple Orchards, previously a dairy farm, most of his life. He was a member of the Olive Branch Lodge of Masons in Millbury for 62 years, a member of the First Congregational Church in Millbury for 75 years and a member of the church's choir for 60 years. He was a former Trustee and Appraiser for the Millbury Savings Bank for many years, a former cemetery commissioner of West Millbury Cemetery and a member of the West Millbury Social Union.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23rd in the First Congregational Church, 148 West Main St in Millbury. Burial will be in West Millbury Cemetery in West Millbury. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22nd in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church Accessibility Fund, 148 West Main St. Millbury, MA 01527.
