MILLBURY – Gertrude C. (Fukaczewski) Sienkiewicz, 78, formerly of Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 7th in her home in Millbury, MA, with her family by her bedside.
Her husband, John P. Sienkiewicz died in 1995. She leaves two children, Karen I. Dyberg and her husband, Mark L Dyberg of Millbury, MA and John A. Sienkiewicz and his wife, Cynthia J. Ladd of San Mateo, CA; 3 grandchildren, Allison Dyberg, David and Amanda Sienkiewicz; two sisters, Sophie Leeman and Clara Jones, a brother, James Ferrick, and many nieces and nephews. She was born in Shamokin, PA and is predeceased by her parents, John and Clara (Ferrick) Fukaczewski. After high school, Gertrude "Trudy" graduated from Drexel College of Nursing in Philadelphia. She worked a number of years as a registered nurse until settling in Elizabeth, PA to raise her family.
Gertrude was a devoted wife and mother. In 1996, she moved to Millbury to live with her daughter and her family. Gertrude loved to shop, do ceramics with her friends and watch her granddaughter Allison play soccer. She was a member of St. Brigid Church in Millbury.
The family wishes to thank the UMass Memorial Hospice team for their support and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to UMass Memorial Hospice, c/o UMass Memorial Foundation, Biotech One, 650 Lincoln Street, Worcester, MA 01613-9938. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date in Shamokin, PA. Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury will be assisting the family with the arrangements.
