SUTTON - Gustaf 'Bill' Holst, 86, formerly of Boston Rd., died Monday, Feb. 25, in Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation for Millbury.
He leaves his wife, Shirley D. (Hentz) Holst; two daughters, Wendy S. Holst-Gravison of Sutton and Susan C. Kersten of Leavenworth, Kansas; three grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-grandson. He is predeceased by a daughter, Nancy J. Bauer and a brother, Donald 'Dunny' Holst, a fighter pilot, killed in action, during WW II. He was born in Worcester, son of Gustaf and Bertha (Trulson) Holst and lived in Quinsigamond Village, in Worcester, before moving to Sutton in 1955. He graduated from Holy Cross College.
Mr. Holst worked at Wyman-Gordon Company in Grafton for 29 years, retiring in 1976. He was an Army veteran during WW II.
He was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Worcester and a member of the Dudley-Gendron American Legion Post. He was a former member of of the Sutton Historical Society, the Sutton School Committee, the Sutton Finance Committee and was a former Cemetery Commissioner for Sutton.
Private funeral services will be held in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury (
www.mulhane.com
). Burial will be in Howard Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation, 1 Armory Square, Springfield, Ma. 01105.
