Harold P. George, Sr. 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16th in Beaumont Nursing Home of Northbridge. He joins his loving wife of 69 years, Eleanor C. (Tolman) George who passed away in December. He also leaves his sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Janice George of Spencer; David George of Swansea, Kenneth and Denise George of Shrewsbury, Jeffrey and Annette George of Charlemont and his daughters and sons-in law, Judith and Thaddeus Laskowski of Sandwich and Ellen and Kenneth Brackley of Charlton. Harold leaves many grandchildren, all of whom he had a special relationship with, Steven, Melanie, Jessica, Kaitlyn, Kendra, Kayta, Jessica; Michael, Jeremy, Jay, Matthew and Kevin. Additionally he and Eleanor had 16 great grandchildren. He had a very close bond with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Claude, Verne, Ernest and Earl George, Irene Zuranski and Florence Mongeon. He was born in Millbury, the son of Claude and Amelia (Leprade) George.
Harold was a proud U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theaters and among his metals were the Victory Metal and the Purple Heart. He worked at Wyman-Gordon Company in Worcester for 38 years, retiring in 1987. Harold and Eleanor raised their family in Whitinsville on Purgatory Road and then they returned to Millbury after their retirement.
He was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Sutton for many years and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and the VFW. He was a volunteer at the Millbury Senior Center. He enjoyed camping at Cape Cod, spending summers at Welch's Grove in Sutton, fishing and hunting with family, cribbage and cards, football and baseball. He was a high school football and basketball star.
Harold cherished all of his family … wife and children, grandchildren; great grandchildren and his nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Northbridge Beaumont facility for lovingly caring for Harold over the past five years.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday April 25th at 10 a.m. in St. John's Episcopal Church, 3 Pleasant St., in Sutton. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of St. John's Episcopal Church, 3 Pleasant St., Sutton, MA 01590.
