MILLBURY - Harriet A. (Ayers) Whelan Sweet, 87, formerly of Colonial Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 16, in Radius HealthCare Center at Millbury.
Her first husband, Charles J. Whelan died in 1953. She leaves her husband Joseph Sweet; a daughter, Patricia A. Whelan of Southbridge; a son, Raymond A. Whelan of Ketchum, Idaho; two step-sons, John H. Sweet of Worcester and Paul A. Sweet of Millbury; two step-daughters, Mary T. Grenier of Charlton and Patricia E. Holland of Millbury; a sister, Mary Ayers of Worcester; two grandchildren; a niece. She was born in Shrewsbury, daughter of Thomas F. and Agnes B. (Clark) Ayers and moved to Millbury in 1945. She graduated from Shrewsbury High School.
Mrs. Sweet was a clerk for New England Power Company for 12 years, retiring in 1977. Previously she was a teller at the Millbury National Bank for 10 years She also worked for public relations with the Mass Electric Energy Van
She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church and has been a Eucharistic Minister there since 1990. She was an associate member of the Sisters of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin at the church and was a member of the Friends of the Millbury Library Renew Program.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Nov. 20, from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., (

) with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church 14 Waters St. Burial will be in Central Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, Ma. 01701.
