Harry A. Bailey, 88 died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 in St. Vincent Hospital after a long illness, surrounded by his family.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Angela M. (Mazzeo) Bailey; four children, Brian Bailey, Mark Bailey and his companion, Mary Kate Doherty and Lisa Andrews, and her husband, Robert all of Sutton and Brad Bailey and his wife, Julianne of Monroe, NH; 8 grandchildren, Matthew, Derek, Jonathan and Caroline Bailey, Christine and Jessica Andrews, Laura Candelaria and her husband, Eric, Samantha Strom and her husband Mark; 5 great grandchildren, Porsha, Summer, Lukas and Nathan Bailey, Ava Candelaria; many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Leverette and Mable (Pierce) Bailey and a sister, Elaine Gribouski.

Harry was born and raised in Millbury and has resided in Sutton for 60 years. He graduated from Millbury High School in 1942 and was an Army veteran during WW II, serving in the Alleutian Islands on the Island of Attu.

He was a former member of the Sutton Board of Selectmen, the Sutton 250th Anniversary Committee, the Finance Committee, the Elementary School Building Committee, the Manchaug Library Building Committee and assisted in the 1962 Town Common Restoration Committee. Mr. Bailey and his wife donated the 'Sutton Stone' that currently stands on the southwest corner of the common.

Mr. Bailey was a founding Member of Saint Mark's Church, member of the former Saint Mark's Men's Club, a founding member and first President of the Sutton Lion's Club, member of Charles F. Minney VFW Post in Millbury. As founding members of Saint Mark's Church, Mr. Bailey and his wife were requested by Former Bishop Bernard J. Flanagan D.D. of Worcester to seek a suitable location for a mission parish of Saint Brigid's Church, Millbury. They selected and assisted in the acquisition of Singletary Farmhouse and the adjacent field on Boston Road for the new parish.

Harry owned and operated Harry Bailey Plumbing and Heating. He and his wife owned and operated the former Sutton Realty, developing homes in Sutton during the 1960's and early 70's. He enjoyed time with his cribbage group, continued communication with World War II veteran relationships, fishing and hunting in the Allagash Territory of Maine and traveling to Alaska.

His funeral will be held, Tuesday, March 5th from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Mark's Church, 356 Boston Rd. in Sutton. Burial will be in St. Brigid Cemetery in Millbury. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 4th in the funeral home.
