SHREWSBURY/MILLBURY – Harry F. Gilmond, 90, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 15th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, after being stricken ill at home. Harry died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family
His wife of 60 years, Barbara A. (Robinson) Gilmond died in 2005. He leaves, two sons, Lawrence C. Gilmond and his wife Kathleen of Millbury with whom he lived for the last year and Mark P. Gilmond and his wife Brenda of Princeton; three grandsons, Michael R. Healy and his wife, Michelle of Auburn, Shane P. Healy of Worcester and Scott R. Gilmond of Millbury; four great grandchildren, Emily, Lacey, Justin and Zachery; a sister-in-law, Dorothy H. McCormick of West Boylston; a niece, Virginia M. Aiello and her husband Dennis, two nephews, John F. McCormick III and his wife Pauline and Kevin M. McCormick and his wife Kathleen all of West Boylston. He was predeceased by a son, James E. Gilmond and his brother-in-law, John F. McCormick II. He graduated from Major Victor E. Edwards High School in West Boylston in 1939.
Mr. Gilmond was a maintenance supervisor at Bay State Abrasives of Westborough for 35 years, retiring in 1984. He was an Army veteran during WW II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He and his wife enjoyed many summers at their home in Wells Maine. He was an avid golfer and bowler.
His funeral will be held Friday, Jan. 22nd from the Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury, with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 Main St. in Millbury Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery in Shrewsbury. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21st in the funeral home.
