SUTTON - Helen F. (Skowronski) Danko, 93, died Thursday Sept. 15th in her home, surrounded by her family.
Helen was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of Alexander and Frances (Dymek) Skowronski. Her devoted husband, Joseph J. Danko, Sr. died in 1991. She was predeceased by three brothers, Benjamin, Edward and Chester Skowronski and a sister, Jean Sharron-Danko.
Helen leaves two daughters, Elaine Swallow and her husband, William and Karen Miller and her husband, Joseph all of Sutton; a son, Dr. Joseph Danko, Jr. and his wife, Joan of Shrewsbury; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Helen attended St. Mary's School as well as Worcester Public Schools. She graduated from David Hale Fanning School in Worcester. She was an accomplished seamstress, employed by several companies but most notably the David Clark Company, who created space suits for NASA. Helen's most rewarding job was as a loving wife and devoted mother. She was a religious lifelong member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church of which her parents were founding members.
Helen had a special place in her heart for nature, notably calling her home her paradise. She especially enjoyed watching the birds and woodland animals that roamed her yard. She enjoyed all kinds of needlework, traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe, especially to Poland and the beauty and serenity of Cape Cod. Helen was an avid baker, especially making apple pies and pizza as a special treat for her grandchildren.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Notre Dame Hospice and Family Tree Homecare, especially Lisa, Peggy, Donna, Ruth and Mary for their compassionate care.
Helen's funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20th in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. in Worcester. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday Sept. 19th at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main St. in Millbury. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in Worcester. Memorial contributions may be made in Helen's memory to Our Lady of Czestochowa Church Renovation Fund, 34 Ward Street, Worcester, MA 01610.
