Helen C. (Chiras) Mankevetch, 99, died Friday, June 20th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worcester surrounded by her loving family.
Her husband, Peter J. Mankevetch died in 2007. She leaves a son, David V. Mankevetch of Millbury; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Helen is predeceased by a son, Peter P. Mankevetch and a daughter, Jean Tuplin.
After retiring from Guaranty Bank, Helen attended Quinsigamond Community College, and graduated with honors, as a member of "Who's Who". She enjoyed the world of academia and applied to Worcester State College, where she earned her bachelor's degree in English at the age of 75. Helen was a published writer and an active member of the community. She was a board member of the Millbury Council on Aging and earned recognition as "Woman of the Year" for RSVP Worcester during their 41st Annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon on May 24, 2012.
Helen's calling hours will be held on Monday, June 23rd from 4 to 6 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main Street in Millbury.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 24th with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 Main Street in Millbury. Entombment will follow in Notre Dame Mausoleum in Worcester.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Millbury Senior Center, 1 River Street, Millbury, MA 01527.
